For whom:

For the discerning music lover who wants to upgrade their analogue music system with a high-end tape recorder and FM tuner.

By whom, who does it:

Helmut Volpp welcomes you to his homepage

After working successfully in communications engineering for almost 40 years as a trained electronics engineer, I can't let go even when I'm (un)retired. Since measurement technology and tape technology are very closely related, I can easily switch to the fascinating field of high-end tape machines. An extensive measurement park supports me in this. At the end of an extensive overhaul/revision/repair, the new owner of the purchased machine can be absolutely sure that his device has been technically restored to the delivery condition. The machine guarantees the parameters of the original technical data sheet at the time of production 30 to 50 years ago . Everything has been done in terms of measuring technology and the revision of the tape machine to ensure that the new owner and music lover will enjoy the music he expects from REVOX for the coming decades.

Why am I so fascinated by the Revox products?

It all started with a long-awaited UHER Royal de Luxe waiting to be resurrected. After a sufficient period of training and dedication, I was able to get this beautiful machine running again so far that my recorded tapes could be played with it. The many friction wheels, rubber parts and complicated levers and springs pushed my patience to the limit. I didn't want to repeat any of this again. Then I thought that antique hi-fi had to be possible in another way: I then bought a well-used Revox A77 for my own use. From then on the world started to turn differently for me. I couldn't believe my eyes and thought I might have bought a studio machine. After a short training period and procurement of a proper measurement park for qualified revision and repair, I am now turning this new hobby into a meaningful, devoted occupation in retirement. Bringing Revox tape recorders back to life has its own fascination and must be done with great care and great enthusiasm for this old technology. This is usually only understood and felt by those who call a corresponding machine their own.

5 reasons that speak for the REVOX tape machines:

  1. Extremely solid and well thought-out mechanical design, based on a truss die-cast chassis
  2. A minimum of mechanical wearing parts, no friction wheels etc.unverbarbar.nd above all no software, everything is
  3. Rock-solid electronics "old school", which could only be improved slightly with modern semiconductors
  4. A sound, a force that comes out of the tape machine when the big 26-inch reels turn, makes your pulse beat faster
  5. These tape machines do not seem to be of any value, both from a technical point of view and as a component of a valuable music system.

You don't take such a machine to the recycling center, so the problem lies more with the user.

My working principle:

Being retired, I have the time, muse and financial independence to offer avid music fans high quality analogue rell-to-reel machines. As we all know, the devices are already quite old and, thanks to the high technical standards, are still in surprisingly good condition. Many devices spent their existence in the basement, attic or somewhere else stood around unused. Many contemporaries want to dispose of the rediscovered devices, partly out of ignorance or because they think they have found “golden treasures” and the euro symbols light up in their eyes. An unrevised machine works somehow in most cases, but the enjoyment of music is usually clouded. Purchasing such machines carries the risk of not knowing exactly what you are getting. If you don't necessarily want to buy a machine in the contract workshops that still offer higher sums, but want to buy a machine of approximately the same quality and with a qualified measurement protocol at a reasonable price, you have the opportunity to choose your machine from my offers. If I have one machine that is worth destined for a new life in the music room of a lover of vintage analogue technology, so I inquire about the machine's past life. Tinkered, dirty and devices in bad condition are not on my table. Mostly they are devices from an estate or surplus stocks from collections. By the way: I only deal with the REVOX models A77, B77, A700 and possibly PR99 in the upscale home audio tape class, no STUDER studio machines (possible in the future). My first machines were my own well-kept UHER Royals de Luxe. As an active radio amateur with other Revox devices, the (vintage) receivers are the next challenge for me. Know-how and measurement park are already available.

By the way: The content of this website is constantly growing with experience and the motivation to breathe new life into the aged Revox premium devices.

Do you really need a tape recorder?

It's possible to live without a tape recorder...
but it's nicer with the spinning coils.
